GRUSSWORT

“Dear readers,
Dear readers interested in digitalization in the field of diabetology, DiGAs – digital health applications – have been around for just over a year now. DiGAs only exist in Germany and other countries are looking over to us with envy. France has even announced its intention to adopt this successful model. This makes it all the more worthwhile to take a closer look at this topic. A brief inventory shows us the following:

As of December 2021, there were 107 DiGA applications (78 applications for provisional admission, 29 applications for permanent admission). 55 were withdrawn, 18 were provisionally approved and 6 were permanently admitted. 7 applications were rejected.

This shows that it is not easy to become a DiGA, as only a quarter of all applications actually manage to be admitted. I am therefore all the more pleased that ESYSTA, a DiGA in the field of diabetology, has also managed to be listed. ESYSTA was the first diabetes DiGA, and a second DiGA in the field of diabetology (HelloBetter Diabetes and Depression) has since been added. My wish for you, dear readers, is that we can use this e-book to give you a better understanding of the topic of DiGA. We would like to show you a direction in which we believe that DiGAs can develop in the field of diabetology and, above all, how DiGAs can sustainably support care in diabetology. With this in mind, I hope you enjoy reading and hopefully gain many new insights.

Yours
Dr. med. Jens Kröger”
